What if I don’t know or can’t provide the recipient’s Tax ID?

What if I don’t know or can’t provide the recipient’s Tax ID?

If you can’t provide the recipient’s Tax ID at the time of booking, mostly this ID is not mandatory and therefore you can still ship, but for some carriers such as DPD it is often mandatory, so you will either need to provide it, or book with another carrier.

Please also note:

  • Customs clearance may take longer, as the courier will need to contact the recipient directly to obtain the missing number.

  • Providing the Tax ID up front helps ensure your parcel clears customs more quickly, avoiding unnecessary delays or storage fees.

We will always tell you if this information is mandatory for your destination.

Important notes

  • Not all couriers require a Tax ID upfront — requirements vary by destination.

  • The Tax ID must match the name of the recipient or company on the shipment paperwork.

  • Some couriers require the shipper’s Tax ID as well, especially for business-to-business deliveries.

  • Supplying an incorrect or invalid number can lead to customs delays or returned shipments.
